Full Description
{1} In Trench 6 and overlying the Romano-British ditch was a possible buried topsoil horizon, the remains of an earlier land surface, on top of which was a layer of dark soil containing C19th glass and pottery, and over which was a layer of rolled ironstone gravel, probably a former yard surface. This in turn was overlain bay dark garden soil from the modern kitchen garden.
