Full Description

{1} The survey plot is dominated by strong linear responses, some likely to be indicative of ditched features, others reflecting the presence of extant ridge and furrow. The latter is clearest in the southern and eastern part of the plot, with broad, but quite diffuse, bands of positive response shadowed by negative response running on a north-west to south-east alignment, and spaced about 8-10m apart. In the northern part of the field a more south-west to north-east trend is evident, again reflecting extant ridge and furrow, here with a narrower spacing of 5m.
The ridge and furrow is well preserved in the eastern and northern part of the field.

{2} Topographic survey recorded two groups of ridge and furrow earthworks separated by a probable headland within the proposed area of development. At the northeast corner of the site there is an area where earthworks are absent, probably due to different land use. An area at the southwest corner of the site is also devoid of ridge and furrow and is partially occupied by a low, oblong shaped mound which probably relates to recent developments at the site, but may represent the remains of a headland.
The geophysical survey indicated that the area at the southwest corner of the site may have been subject to recent disturbance, perhaps during construction of the extant or former buildings fronting onto the roadside in this area. This would account for the lack of earthworks and possibly the low mound in this area.
