Full Description

{2} A small Iron Age farmstead was located to the western end of the development area. The site consisted of a large sub-rectangular ditched enclosure 23m east to west and at least 25m from north to south, with an entrance on its west side. A linear ditch and gully extended to the north and east respectively at right-angles from the north-east corner of the enclosure.
In the area to the north of the enclosure ditch the remnants of a possible roundhouse was located, together with a group of 24 pits. To the east of a north-aligned ditch and the pit group there was a small sub-square enclosure with a centrally located tree hole.
This small enclosure with its substantial tree hole, is difficult to parallel despite the well attested sacred observance of trees in the Iron Age.
