Full Description
{1} Phipps & Co. in 1939; James Ussher in 1973; Roundhouse Stores from 1978-84; Premier in 2008. Chronological table with images and sources.
The present three-storey, flat-roofed brick building was erected between August 1938 and September 1940. Its design and the blank east wall suggests that it was the first stage of a small planned development which was never completed.
The building is thought to be the only example of a building erected in WWII surviving in Towcester. The loss of its original 'Crittal' windows and entrace has affected the significance of the building but it is still of local interest.
{2} 1938 photo shows the original three-storey buildings on the site; the 1940 image shows the replacement building, also of three storeys. Both are owned by Phipps.
