Full Description

{1} Within Trench 5 at a depth of 1.2m a layer of limestone cobbles flecked with charcoal was encountered. This was cut by the foundation trench of a robbed out Roman stone wall, of which only the bottom coarse survived in situ. The wall was aligned north-east to south-west and limestone rubble from the wall was dumped in the backfill of the robber trench. On the north-western side of the trench the fill of a substantial vertical cut had removed part of the Roman wall foundations. The backfill of this feature contained Roman pottery and post medieval glass.
