Full Description

{1} The Roman layer within Trench 13 was sealed by a medieval midden layer which contained pottery dating to the C12th and C13th (as well as a large amount of residual Roman pottery). This layer also contained 0.9kg of iron working slag, suggesting that ironworking was taking place nearby in the medieval period. Above this was a layer of limestone rubble also dating to the C12th/C13th.
