Full Description

{1} In an area delineated by the enclosure ditch and internal, L-shaped ditch, was a small group of features comprising two shallow scoops and two short stretches of steep-sided gullies.
The two scoops were circular, up to 1m across, but no more than 0.2m deep.
The shorter linear cut was 2.12m long x 0.60m wide x 0.64m deep. The sides were steep, nearly vertical, with a concave base. The basal fill was silty clay overlain by dumped charcoal-rich silty clays containing pottery and bone.
The longer gully was 6.6m long x 0.32m wide x 0.3m deep. It had steeply sloping sides and a flat base. The basal fill was mottled silty clay overlain by a dump of charcoal rich clay. A dump of cobbles and pieces of limestone lay in the base of the western end of the gully.
Both the gullies seem unlikely to be drainage features, and may be structural in nature, perhaps forming parts of temporary structures or fencelines. The upper fills of both gullies contained burnt material, perhaps deriving from domestic or occupation activity.
