Full Description
{1} A tentative background of early Bronze Age activity was observed towards the easternmost edge of Area 1. Two postholes, both of which contained early Bronze Age pottery, were located between the considerably truncated remains of two ring gullies, the dating of which was inconclusive. The southernmost posthole contained a sherd of fine comb lattice decorated pot, along with a sherd showing finger nail decoration. Both are typical of Beaker pottery recorded on many vessels in the region. Coarser wares, also with finger nail decoration, were retrieved from the other posthole. Similar pottery occurs elsewhere on Beaker sites and has been attributed to domestic wares, suggestive of an occupation site.
To the south, in the south-eastern area of Area 1 were pits containing residual early Bronze Age pottery. (These lay in an area of undated pits and tree throws located within a probable early Romano-British enclosure.)
