Full Description

{1} Within the northern churchyard test pits, TPA contained a significant small assemblage of Romano-British and Iron Age pottery but this was all contained within a later grave cut. Seven sherds of Iron Age pottery from TPF were equally disturbed, but indicate that the late medieval burial had cut through a late prehistoric layer or feature. Such a feature survived in part in TPG. Although truncated by a C12th grave the cut of a negative feature was found containing a dark organic humic fill, and capped by a layer of large limestone and flint nodules. TPiii included a couple of sherds of early to middle Saxon pottery, re-deposited within a later grave fill.
