Full Description
{1} Trench 7 contained a curving gully, a posthole and a pit, none of which contained dateable artefacts.
The gully was 0.3m wide x 0.06m deep, although it deepened to 0.15m, or had been re-cut, towards its north-eastern end. It had a V-shaped profile.
The posthole was 0.15m wide x 0.15m deep, and had been cut on its eastern edge by a deeper posthole 0.6m long x 0.35m wide x 0.37m deep, with a steep V-shaped profile. Some of the moderately stoney fill could have represented post packing.
Towards the north-eastern end of the trench was a pit which had been cut by a small possible posthole on its north-western edge. The pit was sib-rectangular 0.9m long x 0.7m wide x 0.11m deep. It contained what appeared to be hearth waste of charcoal and infrequent burnt red clay inclusions. The posthole was circular, 0.23m in diameter x 0.08m deep, with a shallow U-shaped profile and a slightly concave base. Its fill included occasional charcoal flecks.
