Summary of Building
First World War memorial, 1920, with later additions for the Second World War.
Reasons for Designation
Denton War Memorial, in the churchyard of the church of St Margaret of Antioch, is listed at Grade II for the
following principal reasons:
* Historic interest: as an eloquent witness to the tragic impact of world events on this local community, and
the sacrifice it has made in the conflicts of the C20;
* Group value: with the Grade II*-listed church of St Margaret of Antioch.
History
Denton War Memorial was unveiled on 1 August 1920 by the Marquis of Northampton, patron of the parish
church. Paid for by the parishioners, it was designed and executed by Messrs Harlow Ltd, monumental
masons of Northampton. The dedication service was led by Rev T Amys. Further details were added at a
later date to commemorate the dead of the Second World War.
Details

two-stepped base, stands in the churchyard to the south of the Church of St Margaret of Antioch (Grade II*).
