Full Description

{1} Two walls of coursed rubble found in trench 5. Aligned roughly north-west to south-east, cut into the garden soil and and probably date to the late 18th or 19th century. One was set in a foundation trench.

{2} Two boundary walls which date to the mid-18th century and are probably those shown on the 1760 map of Brackley. They may have been built along earlier plot boundaries, perhaps dating back to the medieval period. The distance between the walls was 10.1-10.9m. They were 0.5m thick and extended c 30m across the site. The southern wall had nine surviving courses of limestone, the upper four of ashlar stone, within the excavation area (to the north-west it was still standing, forming the boundary between the site and a car-park) and was bonded with lime mortar. The southern wall had seven courses of limestone rubble and two upper courses of unfrogged brick.
