Full Description

{1} There were several pits dating to the post-medieval period. At the southern edge of area A was a large clay-lined pit that was at least 3.9m wide and 0.56m deep. The clay lining suggests that it was constructed to hold water/liquid, perhaps for an industrial process. A further pit contained fragments of a timber plank, perhaps suggesting that it had been timber-lined. The fill contained late 17th century pottery including part of an Oxford Ware hollow skillet handle.
Two irregular pits, apparently tree-throws, had been used to dispose of rubbish dating to the 16th and 17th centuries.
