Full Description
{1} Trial trench excavation was undertaken in a former orchard on the north-east side of the village. Archaeological features were identified in four of the trenches. Eleven postholes were located in Trench 2. They appeared to represent a single structure; the spacing between them was variable and they were either sub-circular or elliptical in plan. Each posthole had a single fill. A single sherd of probable early Anglo-Saxon pottery was present in one. Several ditches and gullies were identified in other trenches. Although undated they may be contemporary.
{2} The overall assemblage of carbonised cereal grains and other plant macrofossils recovered from the post-holes and three other linear features are congruent with the Anglo-Saxon period or later.
