Full Description

{1} The ditch was aligned south-west to north-east and had a U-shaped profile with a concave base and was 0.95m wide by 0.52m deep. It had an unusually dark fill when compared with the other medieval features and contained an unusually high proportion of charred spelt. One sherd of pottery recovered from fill was dated to the 12th century, but due to the high concentration of spelt, a grain not used in the post-Roman period, it is likely to be intrusive. The ditch therefore must pre-date the 12th century.
