Full Description

{1} Set in the grounds of the village hall this milestone was originally about 300 metres east of the cross roads south of the village. The Rugby-Northampton Road (A428)was a turnpike from 1738 to 1870. The metal plaque is a replica from 1990 after the original disappeared.

In May 2016 the original was offered for sale at auction. The Milestone Society's archivist Alan Rosevear reports 'Lot 145 is the original plate from the stone in East Haddon (A428). There is an aluminium copy plate on this stone said to replace the one that was "LOST" ca 1990. There are two significant differences in the legend - the replacement has 85 miles to London (not 73 as on the plate in the auction) and there is no foundry mark (though the design is clearly Tarver plate).'

{2} Located in front of the village hall (recovered from the A428, 300 yards towards Northampton from the East Haddon cross-roads, just over the brow of Tire Hill)
