Full Description

{1} A series of burnt spreads, up to 0.20m thick, including a layer of heat-fractured stones, seven postholes or stakeholes and a burnt layer that covered all these. A piece of worked flint was recovered from a layer of silt under the burnt spread, although it may not be in situ. The burnt spread layers sealed all seven postholes, six of which appeared to form a regular arrangment and may represent a temporary structure such as a windbreak or frame, a feature that has been found in association with a burnt mound but is not typical.
While the spreads did not have the typical attributes of burnt mounds, the associated environmental assemblage suggests this type of activity.

{2} An early date is suggested, as the burnt spread layer was cut by an early Iron Age ditch
