Full Description

{3} Identified during wider archaeological excavation at the Sol Central site. A former building was located towards the corner of St Mary's Street and Quart Pot Lane and surviving as a number of perpendicular walls of unbonded ironstone. The building contained a hearth constructed from ironstone with an in situ area of burning. Most of the pottery was residual. The latest sherd came from the construction of the hearth and was a small sherd of Potterspury Ware dating to the late 13th century at the earliest. Later pits suggest that the building had gone out use by the end of the 14th century. Deeds copied into the cartulary of St James' Abbey suggest that the rectory of St Mary's Church was on the south-east corner of St Mary's Street and Quart Pot Lane.
