Full Description

{1} Archaeological investigation was carried out during the groundworks for a new extension at Church Barn. At some date the ground had been terraced. A wall aligned along the northern edge of the terrace may have been part of a building or a revetment. An extensive area of burning was noted but no specific features were associated with it. There was a stone-lined drain, 4m long and slightly curvilinear in plan, as well as two possible pits and a possible ditch. A single sherd of early medieval pottery was found in its fill. Two detached shafts of worked medieval stone were recovered from this area and probably date to the earlier church. All the features were subsequently sealed by a series of dumped deposits.
