Full Description

{1} Geophysical survey found evidence of an L-shaped anomaly, probably a ditch, to the south-west of a copse of trees. On the eastern side, positive anomalies appeared to make a linear east to west ditch. To the north of the ditch, numerous anomalies were detected that describe short ditches, pits ferrous debris and variations that may be ascribed to alluviation.

{2} The archaeology in this area consisted of only four ditches and a single pit. The pit and one of the ditches contained a single sherd of Iron Age pottery, while one of the other ditches contained a single sherd of 1st to 2nd century AD pottery. The pit is of particular interst as it was filled by burnt stones and may have been used for cooking. Although sparse, the archaeology in this area is far enough removed from other areas of contemporary activity to suggest a separate zone of activity.

{3} Archaeological excavation undertaken as part of a sewerage pipeline construction (Area 3). Most of the archaeological features in Area 3 appeared to be part of an Iron Age settlement, including the eaves drip gully from a roundhouse.
