Monument record 2172/1 - Area of post-medieval/modern quarrying

A number of probable quarry pits were identifid during trial trenching. A former field boundary was also identified

{1} A number of probable quarry pits were identified during trial trenching at Victor Barns. Finds from the upper fills of the pits dated to the 19th century. Only the uppermost fills of the pit were excavated, but the presence of modern artefacts within the upper part of the fill sequence indicated that these were not archaeologically significant.

A ditch aligned north-east to south-west was also identified. No finds were recovered but it was considered likely to have been a boundary defining a narrow field before the opening up of larger agricultural units in the 19th century
