Full Description

{1} An estate map produced in 1797 clearly records Broughton Lodge as well as one of the buildings subject to this building recording, indicating that elements of the complex date from at least the 18th century. By the late 19th century two further yards had been built to the north and by 1900 the farm was much as it is presently. The buildings surveyed were likely to have been cow hovels and a milking parlour. Not included in the survey, but also present on the 1797 map is a stone-built threshing barn.

The buildings included in the survey are all late 19th or early 20th century in date, but have retained some structural elements of earlier buildings, most notably the stone built walls. The buildings, all livestock buildings, were built or re-built probably as a result of the farm becoming a dairy or livestock farm rather than an arable farm possibly as a result of the rapid growth of nearby Kettering in the 19th century.
