Full Description

{1} The southernmost barn is probably the oldest of the three as it appears to be depicted on the 1839 Tithe Map {2} and may have been constructed in the late 18th or early 19th century. It was probably used to house animals with feed storage on the upper floor. The building was radically altered in the later 20th century. This barn formed part of a loose arrangement of buildings shown on the Tithe Map, although all but that and the farmhouse appear to have been demolished in a reorganisation of the farmstead that probably took place in the mid 19th century.

The Threshing Barn and the Shelter Shed appear to have been part of that modernisation programme and their design and structural details would fit a mid-19th century date. This was presumably part of the several improvements made to their holdings by the Grafton Estate at around this period. These two buildings have been relatively little altered since they were built – apart from a handful of new openings, minor internal changes, and the replacement of some of the piers of the Shelter Shed in concrete block work. The roof coverings of all three buildings is very recent comprising corrugated iron and modern profiled steel sheeting.
