Full Description

{1} Trial evaluation undertaken in 2013. A pit alignment comprising three circular pits and orientated north-east to south-west was recorded in Trench 86. All the pits were greater than 1.3m in diameter and between 0.3m and 0.66m in depth. A flint scraper was recovered from one pit although the rising water table in this area prohibited meaningful excavation beyond a depth of 0.4m. The pottery recovered from the pits dated from the middle Iron Age, c. 350-50 BC to the early Romano-British period AD 40-70.

A ditch, which contained a single sherd of pottery dating between 50 BC and 50 AD in the upper fill, may be part of a wider relict field system as were other undated ditches in nearby trenches.
