A building of possible medieval origin, shortened and remodelled in the 17th century

Type and Period (1)

Full Description

{1} Analysis, photographs & plan. Two bays, two storeys with attics, with a late 20th century rear wing on its north side. Built of stone, the front rendered and painted. Slate roof.

Due to the absence of any substantial original fireplace in the building and the placing of the south gable truss, it was suggested that it was originally longer by one bay to the south. It may be 17th century or earlier as the principal rafters are not only curved, but are blackened and are tosh pegged, all characteristics of medieval construction of cruck derivation.
