Full Description
{1} The earliest barn is constructed of coursed limestone rubble with ashlar quoins. All four elevations have original ventilation slots. Full height barn doors on the western elevation and an original window in the gable of the south elevation. A later recessed window opening of possible 19th-century origin with limestone head and cill was inserted into the fabric of the west wall along with a modern secondary entrance within the east wall. The roof supporting structure of four queen post roof trusses was of 19th century origin and thus not an original feature. The roof structure itself of rafters and purlins appeared to be a modern 20th century addition. The removal of part of the wall fabric of the north elevation during the alteration works revealed that the wall fabric of the High Barn was composed of inner and outer faces with an internal rubble core.
The external build fabric of the 19th century single storey Low Barn only partially survives comprising the south wall and part of the east wall of this building, with the remainder of this building having been demolished. The build farbric was composed of coursed and bonded limestone blocks with a column or pilaster of limestone ashlars or quoins at the north-eastern corner of this building.
The Stable Block has been completely demolished. This was a single storey 19th century outbuilding with a gabled roof of modern yellow cement pantiles, red pantiles and sheets of modern corrugated iron. The south elevation was composed of vertical timber planking with two original door openings each with two half doors. The west and north elevations were composed of coursed and bonded limestone blocks. The west elevation had an original door opening at the upper levels to a hay loft. The north elevation had one modern ventilation aperture inserted into its wall fabric along with two infilled former window openings, which may have been original. These were marked by two horizontal timber lintels and were both infilled with materials to match the surrounding build fabric.
