Full Description

{1} Archaeological observation of groundworks associated with the construction of a new house identified a small number of ditches. A small fragment of shell gritted pottery was retrieved from the upper fill of one of the ditches. This type of pottery may date from the Iron Age, Roman or medieval period. In an environmental sample from the same feature there was charred bread wheat, animal bone and a few fish bone fragments. On balance it was considered that the ditch was more likely to be Roman in date.

A stone wall observed in the service trench appeared to be associated with 19th-century pottery.
