Full Description
{1} In 1813 there was a long rectangular range at the rear of the plot which may have been outhouses, stables or workshops associated with what was later known as the Horsehoe Inn to the north. By 1883, this range had been removed and a new land parcel created upon which five new ranges of buildings had been constructed. Some may have been dwellings. On Park Road, known at that date as Chapel Street, were further terraced houses.
Archaeological observation undertaken during construction of new houses found no evidence of any of the former buildings, nor were any artefacts present. Near to the south-eastern edge of the area, a 19th century brick and stone-lined well was partly exposed in a foundation trench. It corresponds with the hand-pump marked 'P' on an OS map of 1899.
