Monument record 8576/1/2 - Probable early-17th century lake, Old Sulehay Lodge

Summary
A lake or fishpond located to the north of Old Sulehay Lodge. Probably created in the early 17th century, possibly in the years between 1635 and c1641 during work at the lodge by the 2nd Earl of Westmorland, Mildmay Fane. The lake, dam and sluice, which are located at the eastern end of the lake, still survive.

Full Description
{1} Depiction of Sulehay Lodge in c1641 {2} shows.. a lake to its north. Anthony's grandson, the poetic 2nd Earl of Westmorland [Mildmay Fane], identified this lake as 'Sewlhey Poole, wher Carpes and other fish/Exchange their silver waters for a dish'.
