Full Description

{2} Trial trench excavation confirmed the results of the preceding geophysical survey which had identified a possible trapezoid shaped enclosure. Internal features, namely ditches and pits, suggests settlement activity within it. To the south further features may indicate the presence of more enclosures or an associated field system.

Artefactual evidence suggests that settlement may have originated in the mid 1st century AD, but that the focus lay in the 2nd to 4th centuries AD. Charred plant remains indicated crop processing was taking place.

{3} Further trial trench excavation identified further ditches to the north-west of the area of settlement.

{4} Subsequent excavations identified two enclosures, two waterholes and a trackway. These are dated to the transitional period between Iron Age and Roman. The trackway is aligned north-south and extends through multiple areas of excavations. There are groups of pits amongst the enclosures that define the entrance to the enclosures.
