Full Description

{1} Archaeological excavation of Area 6 identified a Roman trackway and ten widely-spaced boundary ditches, probably representing parts of a field system or field systems. Only four ditches produced Roman pottery, the others have been placed in the same phases due to stratigraphic and/or spatial relationships.
The trackway, which was defined by two parallel ditches, was located at the western edge of the excavation and measured 85.20m in length by 6.8m in width. Both ditches were recut on at least one occasion. The fill of the western ditch produced nine sherds of Roman pottery. The preservation of many of the ditches was very poor, probably due to heavy ploughing in the medieval period.
