Summary

A house built in 1848 is situated on the southern side of Chapel Street, at its junction with Hautsboy Lane. The building is constructed of coursed rubble and freestone with a double pitch Welsh slate roof with yellow brick chimney stacks at each gable. The northern facade has two sliding sash windows without glazing bars to the first floor with a rectangular plaque inscribed with F + I 1848 inbetween. The ground floor has a central door that is flanked by two sash windows under segmental brick arches.

Full Description

{1} Martins House, No 29, two storeys, freestone dressings, Welsh slate roof, class 8, built in 1848. The date stone inscribed 'FI 1848' may be for Frances Ireson, mason and grocer (Kelly 1847) who in 1864 advertised his baker's and grocer's premises for sale (Mercury 27 May). A bakehouse survives in a rear range. (Not entered).
