Summary

Shop with store above, with datestone of 1838. Now house. Constructed of coursed rubble with freestone dressings and double pitch slate roofs with end chimney stacks. It has a shop front with a central door flanked by large shop windows with a three light casement window above. The side elevation has three blocked doors to the ground floor beneath a loft door between two casement windows under segmental arches.

Full Description

{1} Nos. 20, shop with store above; panel inscribed 'IM 1838', probably built for Isaac Middleton;

{2} The site of a post medieval house and shop built between 1836 (HER no 2853/0/156) and 1838. The buildings are constructed of coursed rubble with freestone dressings and double pitch slate roofs with end chimney stacks. The house has a symmetrical three window front of sliding sash windows in freestone surrounds, above a dressed central door that is flanked by similar sash windows. The shop is located to the east and has a shop front with a central door flanked by large shop windows with a three light casement window above. The side elevation has three blocked doors to the ground floor beneath a loft door between two casement windows under segmental arches. The two buildings share a building file but there is no known relationship between them.
