Summary
The Odeon cinema at Corby was built by Oscar Deutsch in partnership with a local steel works which was anxious to provide modern facilities so as to attract and retain employees. In September 1934, Deutsch announced a partnership with Stewart and Lloyds to build a modern Odeon on a site that had already been agreed. Opened in March 1936, the cinema was designed by Laurence M Gotch and seated just over one thousand. The facade was symmetrical, with a curved canopy that nearly echoed the cylindrical mass of faience above. Faience was also used throughout the ground floor with brick above. In the 1960 it was taken over by a local independent and renamed the Rutland Cinema in January 1969. The cinema closed in late 1969 and later became the Rutland Bingo Club. In 1996 it became a furniture store.
