Monument record 860/0/7 - Modern garden/backyard features, The Old Rectory

Archaeological observation undertaken during the construction of a house and garage identified a recently demolished 19th-century garden wall, modern pits and an undated pit containing an articulated horse limb.

{1} Archaeological observation was undertaken in 2018 during the construction of a single house and garage. Much of the site had been heavily truncated by modern landscaping. A single undated pit contained the partially articulated remains of a horse, but no associated finds. Further pits were post-medieval or modern in date, containing bottle glass and printed glazed ware; no finds were retained. A wall foundation aligned south-west to north-east was the remains of a recently demolished garden which dates back to at least 1885 {2}.
