Full Description

{1} Building survey was undertaken of buildings on the former gasworks site prior to demolition. Two barns, joined by a 20th-century connecting building, were located on the site frontage and predated the gasworks. Works plans from the mid-20th century suggest the barns were in separate ownership. One of the barns is depicted on the 1811 enclosure map, whilst the barn on the frontage is depicted on the 1850 plan of the town. Both barns were of limestone construction with asbestos tiled roofs. The earlier, larger barn may have been a threshing barn, although it only had a single entrance.
