Full Description
{1} This two-storey workshop is built on a rectangular plot on the north side of Abington Avenue and seems to have belonged originally to No. 117, which adjoins to the west. It may have been built as the workshop or warehouse of a building craftsman (builder, painter, plumber, etc), but the provision in the east wall of first-floor loading doorways at either end, with a single window per floor on each side of a central stack, might suggest dual occupancy. Despite the render on the west-facing wall, all the visible fenestration in the workshop appears to be original with blue brick sills throughout and segmental heads on the ground floor. The large three-light window frame in the south gable and the tall frames extending into the eaves in the west-facing wall suggest that the first floor served as a workshop. As the ground floor has smaller windows it may have been used for other purposes. Various single-storey flat-roofed additions in a variety of materials have been made to the rear of the workshop.
