Summary

A subrectangular ditched enclosure of probable Iron Age or Roman date is visible as cropmarks on aerial photographs. Located in a field immediately W of Black Lodge, the ditch up to 3.5 metres wide has three linear sides, with a curvilinear E facing side, enclosing an area about 16.5 x 14 metres at its widest points. A gap of 2 metres in the E facing side may be an entrance.

Full Description

{1} A subrectangular ditched enclosure of probable Iron Age or Roman date is visible as cropmarks on aerial photographs and was mapped as part of the Bedford Borough NMP project. Located in a field immediately west of Black Lodge and centred at TL 02646 72037, the ditch up to 3.5 metres wide has three linear sides, with a curvilinear east-facing side, enclosing an area about 16.5 x 14 metres at its widest points. A gap of 2 metres in the east-facing side may be an entrance.
