Full Description

[1} A level 2 building recording survey was undertaken in advance of the demolition of the school buildings. The earliest phase of the school was constructed in c1870 and extended between 1894 and 1901 following the donation of additional land by Earl Spencer. The main phase of the building shows some characteristics of the pavilion or corridor style of school building. The building is gernally light with large sash windows but is architecturally simple in its detail. It seems likely that the other school building, located on St James Road and built in 1866, served as an infants school and these later buildings were split between girls and boys. During the 1970s a number of flat roofed extensions were added and much of the interior was refurbished and remodelled. Demolished in c2012.
