Full Description

{2} Evaluation trenches targeting a site found in the geophysical survey directly to the south of Milton Malsor found well-preserved remains dating to the Late Iron Age / Early Roman period. A large, square central enclosure and an eastern enclosure were identified but a western enclosure was not. The central enclosure is characterised by the deep V-shaped ditches though no bank was found probably due to ploughing. The southern boundary of the site, or possibly one side of a contemporary track, was found. A D-shaped enclosure which overlaps with the central square enclosure was also verified by the evaluation, though the curving east side identified during geophysical survey of this was not found suggesting it had been ploughed out. Pits within the enclosures contained significant quantities of pottery and burned deposits, probably as rubbish.
