Summary

Trial trench excavation undertaken in 2017 identified two ditches, one of which contained a significant amount of Roman pottery. The ditches may be boundaries associated with the settlement identified to the east.

Full Description

{2} Archaeological evaluation undertaken in 2017 has found evidence of probable Roman boundary ditches to the south of Gayton Road in Field 18. Two ditches were identifed, one of which contained 126 sherds of pottery dating to the Roman period. The ditches are probably boundary ditches and may be associated with the more extensive area of settlement found to the east.
