Building record 1160/0/328 - 28 St Edmund's Road/77 Ethel Street, Northampton
Please read our guidance about the use of Northamptonshire Historic Environment Record data.
Summary
Late 19th-century former boot and shoe factory. Three storeys. Significant modern alteration has obscured much of the detail, but it is likely that this is a combined three-storey house and factory. This rectangular plan building is constructed from brick with a half-hipped roof covered in slate. Ordnance Survey and other mapping, suggest that it was built c.1880.

Full Description
{1} Three-storey boot and shoe factory occupies a site on the corner of St Edmund's Road and Ethel Street. The remodelling of the ground floor, insertion of modern window frames and the rendering of the exterior has obscured most of the detail. A wrought-iron jib crane next to a modern window on the second floor suggests the location of a taking-in door.
Details in the two-bay Ethel Street elevation suggest a domestic use. In 1877, Elijah Irons, boot and shoe manufacturer, is recorded at 77 Ethel Street.
