Summary
Former shoe factory (and later shoe machinery factory) of two phases. The five bays to the west formed the original factory, built by 1884, and the three bays to the east were built between 1884 and 1890 on the site of an earlier building. Now Chaplin's Stage School.

Full Description
{1} Former shoe factory (and later shoe machinery factory) on the north side of St Michael's Road. It has a T-shaped plan consisting of an eight-bay street rnage of three storeys and a basement, and a three-by-six rear range. The front range is of two phases; the five bays to the west formed the original factory and the three bays to the east were built in a matching style between 1884 and 1890 on the site of an earlier house. The east gable of the St Michael's Road range has the legend '[…] Machinery Co. Ltd (Engineers)' painted on it. In the 20th century the factory was integrated with Dickens Brothers Leather Works (Site 40). Now Chaplins Stage School.
