Summary

The Second World War dispersed Site 9 for RAF Chelveston was visible on historical aerial photographs. They were originally the accommodation quarters for the airmen working at the airfield prior to the USAAF taking over in 1942. No buildings remain extant and the areas is now a dense wood copse, though the lidar suggests the air raid shelters are still present and the footings of the buildings are visible on the ground. An extant WW2 stanton shelter has been identified within the spinney.

{3-6} The Second World War dispersed Site 9 for RAF Chelveston was visible on historical aerial photographs and was mapped as part of the Bedford Borough NMP project. Site 9 is centred at SP 99077 66520 and were originally the accommodation quarters for the airmen working at the airfield prior to the USAAF taking over in 1942. No buildings remain extant and the areas is now a dense wood copse, though the lidar suggests the air raid shelters are still present and the footings of the buildings are visible on the ground.
