Summary

Possibly the site of one of two mills recorded at Greens Norton at Domesday in 1086. In 1815 the mill was for sale. The buildings were demolished prior to 1969.

Full Description

{1} 1086 Domesday survey records at Nortone two mills rendering 15s.
1760 Joseph Cleaver, miller, at Norton.
1815 Mill for sale, with two waterwheels 'one overt-shot, and one Ground-Shot', carrying three pairs of stones with room for four pairs, and two dressing machines; capable of making up 200 sacks of flourper week. Mr Joseph Cleaver, proprietor declining business on account of ill-health.
1847-1890 Gallard family working Greens Norton mill.
1920 Listed in trade directory as using water and steam power.
1924 By this time a gas engine has been installed.
1969 Buildings had been demolished sometime previously and only the water courses, including the sluices, remained.

Brick arched bridge for track past mill site into fields. On downstream side of bridge, a long length of curved brickwork from river bed to ground level. The mill was adjacent to the upstream side of the bridge and there is some ground level brickwork and also a small brick building within the area but so clad with ivy etc that it was not possibe to investigate/identify this.
