Full Description

{1} Domesday survey gives Moltone with one mill rendering 8d although another reference quotes 'it was worth shillings, now it is worth 50 shillings.
1296 Two watermills attached to Moulton manor, which with fishing of the ponds, were worth 40s.
1334 Mills described as being in a bad state.
1550 The watermill at Moulton was amongst the grant of properties to the king's sister, Elizabeth.
1609 James I granted to Edward Ferrers and Francis Phelipps the watermill and a horse mill, with the mansion house and meadow in Northmeade adjoining the mills, at a rent of £1 15s 4d
1632 Deed refers to the mill as Shottle Mill, important for its fishing rights and use made of the osier beds.
1706 John Saunderson was in possession of the watermill, as Lord of the Manor.
1741 When advertised for sale, the mill had a good pair of French Stones, and a pair of Peaks.
1760 Fee farm rent for the watermill and horse mill was still £1 15s 4d.
1857 At his death, Thomas Merry was described as miller at Abington and Moulton mills.
1870 Mill, together with nearby windmill, advertised for sale, having three pairs of stones and two flour machines also had a 'first-class steam engine with 12 horse power boiler, nearly new, by Allchin & Son.
1924 Milling ceased at the watermill, which was converted into a farmhouse.
