Summary

A mill was recorded at Domesday in 1086. There are medieval and post-medieval references to the mill and it continued to run until the mid-20th century. It was demolished in 1960.

{1} 1086 Domesday survey records Stanwige with one mill rendering 20s.
1291 Mill with meadow and other lands valued at £8 11s
1435 John Muston, miller of Stanwyg.
1609 Watermill and windmill in Stanwick, leased to Edward Ferres and Francis Phelips.
1772 Daniel Poole, miller at Stanwick letting a bake-house in the village.
1815 Water corn-mills and windmill in Stanwick advertised for sale.
1860 Advert re sale of property under will of late Mr William Ashby included 'all those Stanwick undershot corn mills, with two waterwheel each driving two pairs of stones..'
1888 Stanwick Water Corn Mill advertised for sale by auction.
They were not sold at this time but later Mr E B Randall took the mill as part of a debt owing to him by G P Welford.
1890 Henry Holland was tenant miller.
1909 Mr E B Randall and a Trust Fund was started for his daughters, with the income from the mill as a basis.
1959 Leslie Sanders (who took over the trust in 1933) sold the mill for £2204 18s 6d to John Wills, a sand and gravel entrepreneur.
1960 Mill demolished.

An external inspection in October 2001 found no buildings. The brick wheel-arch reminas over the race, which is now part of the flood control system. On the downstream side of the arch there is brickwork from below water level to ground level. There is another lower, and filled-in, arch a short distance to the right of the wheel-race arch. The brickwork extends for aconsiderable distance along the north side of the tail pond.
