Monument record 9792/1 - Probable late Iron Age or Roman settlement, south-west of Oakwood Farm

Please read our .

Summary

Parts of a rectilinear ditched Iron Age and/or Roman ditched enclosure, with a curvilinear enclosure at one corner, are recorded as cropmarks on EH reconnaissance aerial photographs in July 2011. The rectilinear enclosure measures about 35 metres by about 80 metres and the curvilinear enclosure appended to its south-east corner measures about 20-25 metres across. A sinuous cut feature, which extends north-south to the west of the enclosure, corresponds to a boundary, probably defined by a stream, which is visible on Google Earth ‘1945’ layer aerial photographs and is partly marked on the 1919-1939 era Ordnance Survey maps.
