Monument record 8856/1 - Probable Iron Age/Roman settlement, east of Denford Old Covert
Please read our guidance about the use of Northamptonshire Historic Environment Record data.
Summary
An Iron Age and/or Roman ditched trackway, enclosures and boundaries are recorded as cropmarks on EH Reconnaissance aerial photographs taken in July 2011 and are also partially visible on Google Earth aerial photographs taken in the 2006. The trackway follows a sinous route, mostly north to south for about 630 metres. Enclosures, of varying shapes and sizes, but mostly measuring between 10 metres to 30 metres across, are appended or overlie the length of the trackway. They probably indicate a settlement and associated land division. A ditched boundary to the east of the northern end of the trackway, in an adjacent modern field could be related to this site.
