Monument record 8869/1 - Probable Iron Age/Roman settlement, north-west of Bull Nose Coppice

Iron Age and/or Roman ditched enclosures and boundaries, probably indicating the site of a settlement, are recorded as cropmarks on EH reconnaissance aerial photographs in July 2011. Irregular boundaries partially enclose an area measuring about 125 metres by 100 metres. Within this there are several smaller enclosures of varying shapes, each about 10-15 metres across. One of these may be the drip gully for a round house. To the north east of the enclosure there are hints of another similar but slightly smaller enclosure measuring about 75 metres by 50 metres. More cropmarks in the north east corner of the modern field could be parts of the same extensive site.
